The Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router is really four devices in one box. First, there is the dual-band Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network withoutwires. There is also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect yourwired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties itall together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internetconnection.

What Customers Say About Linksys WRT600N Linksys Ultra RangePlus Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link:

I DO NOT recommend purchasing this router. The only fix is to perform a renew/release on your IP or a hard recycle of the router by unplugging it. I highly suggest consumers stay away from this router. Even with the latest firmware updates this model inherently has an issue of losing throughput over time. Search the web and you'll find this issue is very prevalent with this particular model.

Sad it only lasted 18 months. At first I suspected the cable modem, but after resetting it, the problem still existed. In fact the router has worked flawlessly until just the other day. Running an internet speed test I found that my internet speed was about 1/4 of what it should be. Cleared all the settings back to factory and started from scratch, and still no joy. Did some research and found that someone else had the exact same problem with this unit - he was advised by Linksys to replace the router. It was slowly dying. You Tube videos were taking forever to load.

Then I reset the router and the speed would return to normal, but only for a few hours. Rather than fussing with it anymore, especially with some of the more recent reviews, I ended up just replacing the router and I'm back to normal. I bought this router based on the reviews at the time and they were pretty good. I'm using high speed cable internet and noticed my internet speed was very slow. I flashed the router with the latest Linksys firmware which did not help.

The date the router was originally sold and then name of the dealer it was sold by; and2. The Linksys company will not repair any out-of-warranty routers for a fee. What choice should the consumer have when they buy a Linksys computer accessory and it goes out-of-warranty.When shopping for a used router, obtain the router's serial number and version; then telephone Linksys customer service and after you provide them with that information, they will advise you with two interesting pieces of information:1. :-) I had to buy two used WRT600N routers before I found one that appears to be working correctly. What I learned thru all of this was that if the router is out-of-factory warranty and in need of repair, you probably won't find anyone to repair it; so it will end up as a "paperweight."Here's why:1. The Linksys company will not provide or sell any repair manuals, including schematic diagrams; and2. The amount of factory warranty remaining on the router. So, if you're buying a used Linksys WRT600N router, be careful.you could end up being hurt.have you ever had a heavy paperweight fall on you toes.

I have had more trouble with signal being clamped, LOST ALTOGETHER and my cable company had been here close to 20 times in 8 months and they nor myself can find anything other than the 600N as the cause so here is the answer.@#@IN THE PAST I HAD GOOD LUCK WITH NETGEAR SO I BOUGHT REFURBISHED NETGEAR EXTENDED RANGE "N" ROUTER BECAUSEI WAS NOT SURE IF THE 600N WAS THE PROBLEM AND DID NOT WANT TO HAVE PAID A BUNCH FOR ANOTHER THAT WOULD FAIL.YES, YOU GUESSED IT THE NETGEAR FIRED UP i RECONFIGURED MY 3 DESKTOP COMPUTERS AND MY 2 NOTEBOOKS AND WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE. Support is next to none. Read the other review about dropped Internet connection and I will add that I have sat and watched the signal fade out with 2 different speed checkers. My only problem is the Netgear does not have a external port for a hard drive but the lack of crap and aggravations that the Linksys WRT600N caused is very wonderful to be DONE WITH LINK_STINKING_SYS and for you know it all's yes I upgraded and flashed the piece of junk.

I have gotten it to work once since I got the device, and never again after that. all they could suggest was to reflash the device with the latest firmware, which, mind you, was already on the device.Overall, I think this router is ok, if you REALLY want the 802.11n. I can honestly say, that Linksys could've done without this feature, because it causes more frustration than anything, and it never works. they are far more stable, they work like a charm, and are about 1/3 the price.

Documentation was totally lacking, and the problems that I'm experiencing are obvious flaws with the firmware than user error.Contacting Linksys about this problem was also useless. I have a MBP with an 802.11n card, and it also seemed to have some fairly good performance. Personally, I wouldn't even consider buying it for its storage-link capability. The configuration of the network was fairly simple. Of course moving from such a platform, the WRT600N seemed quite lacking in features, though it worked ok with wireless, as well, as wired. I occasionally have some problems with my internet throughput to slow down to less than 1mbps (I have a 10mbps at home), and I haven't gotten to the source of the problem yet, could be the WRT600N, or my D-Link switch, or the actual cable modem. My biggest caveat with the device is the storage-link, granted, I didn't quite buy it for the storage-link, and I didn't have many high expections about it, but I thought I'd give it a shot. Groups and users seem to disappear randomly.

Short of the first option, I would stick witht he proven WRT54G, or WRT54GL. I got this router to replace an older machine that was running Smoothwall. so I can't quite fully blame the router regarding that yet. No user/group that was previously assigned would authenticate to a windows machine (or a Mac for that matter).
